Sattva Yoga

According to Vedic philosophy, there are three important gunas (virtues) in Samkhya. These three gunas are Rajasika, Tamasika ans Sattvika. Sattva, meaning purity, a state of harmony, alignment, happiness, intelligence, wisdom, is the most rarefied of the three gunas. Sattva signifies light, clarity and understanding and is said to be “the fruit of virtuous living.”

In Sattva Yoga, practitioners try to find the answer of the burning question ‘who am I’ through meditation using the thousand year old mantra AUM. Unlike other yoga schools, Sattva Yoga does not try to separate itself from all of the other schools or types of yoga, but rather to create a path towards a state of being.

Sattva is the component nearest to divinity. Hence its predominance in a person is characterized by joy, contentment, virtues like patience, perseverance, forgiveness, spiritual yearning etc. Sattva Yoga is about developing an altimate alignment among the body, breath and mind so we can engage with this spiritual yearning and ground it into reality.

Being Sattvic is characterized by equilibrium; responsible for health and contentment of mind and body and associated with the mind, consciousness, or intelligence that maintains health.

Merging of two ancient paths, that of Hatha Yoga and Raja Yoga, Sattva yoga has developed a unique teaching method to create balance, inner strength and rejuvenate the practitioner. They offer flow yoga which allows the practitioners to reveal the potential that exists within the balanced, open body. Hatha yoga is a yoga system of physical exercises and breathing control. This branch of Yoga uses physical poses or Asana, Breathing Techniques or Pranayama, and Meditation to achieve better health, as well as spirituality.

On the other hand Raja Yoga is concerned principally with the cultivation of the viewer’s mind using a succession of steps, such as meditation and contemplation. The Sattva Yoga practice is dedicated to inspiring practitioners to use the balance found from within their practice and to live from that place of inspired potential that exists within all of us.
